Collector Corm

Alocasia Infernalis Pink Variegated Corm

Grow one of the darkest collector Alocasias from the beginning with a rare Alocasia Infernalis Pink Variegated corm.

1 Corm

This listing is for one live corm only—not the mature plant pictured.

Borneo

Alocasia infernalis is a true species native to Sarawak on Borneo and is known for compact growth and unusually dark foliage.

Pink Variegated

A collector variegated form selected for the possibility of pink, blush, cream or lighter markings against the species’ dark foliage.

Why Collectors Love It

Near-black foliage with the possibility of dramatic pink contrast.

Alocasia Infernalis is already an extraordinary species before variegation enters the picture. Juvenile plants can show metallic purple foliage, while mature leaves may deepen into a lustrous purple-black tone. That naturally dark base color is what makes a pink-variegated form especially striking: even small areas of blush, cream, pale pink or lighter marbling can stand out dramatically against the near-black leaf surface.

Unlike giant elephant-ear types, Infernalis has a compact collector habit. Mature plants stay much more manageable than many larger Alocasias, making this variety especially appealing for curated indoor collections, greenhouse displays and growers who want rare color without sacrificing space. Every new leaf can reveal a different balance of dark purple-black tissue and lighter variegated areas.

Possible Foliage Colors

  • Deep purple-black
  • Metallic purple
  • Dark green undertones
  • Blush pink
  • Soft rose or dusty pink
  • Cream to pale ivory
  • Different patterns on each leaf

Important Variegation Disclosure

Variegation is naturally unpredictable.

This corm is sold as Alocasia Infernalis Pink Variegated propagation material from a pink-variegated collector line. However, the exact color, amount and pattern of variegation in the resulting plant cannot be guaranteed. Corm-grown variegated Alocasias can express differently even when produced by highly variegated parent plants.

A plant may produce strong pink sectors, blush marbling, cream markings, subtle pink flecks, low-variegation growth or leaves that appear predominantly dark. Variegation can also increase, decrease or shift as the plant matures. The mature plant pictured is a reference for the collector form and potential appearance—not a promise that every future leaf will match it exactly.

What You Will Receive

One carefully selected live corm.

Produced from pink-variegated collector stock

Carefully packaged for shipment

Corms naturally vary in size, shape, exterior texture and stage of development. Your corm may arrive dormant, beginning to root, showing a visible growth point or already beginning to sprout. Dry outer material, natural brown coloration and small cosmetic surface marks can be normal characteristics of living Alocasia propagation material.

How to Start Your Corm

Warm. Humid. Moist—not waterlogged.

Place the corm in a clean propagation container using a lightly moist medium. Position the pointed growth end upward and nestle the lower portion into the medium while leaving the growth point exposed or only lightly covered. Alocasia Infernalis is a wet-tropical species, but a corm still needs oxygen around the developing roots. Warmth and steady humidity should be paired with careful moisture control rather than saturation.

Perlite +

Best for easy moisture control and airflow.

Rinse the perlite, place it into a clean cup and moisten it thoroughly. Nestle only the lower portion of the corm into the perlite with the growth point facing upward. Keep the perlite damp rather than flooded. A clear cup can make it easier to watch developing roots without disturbing the corm.

LECA +
LECA clay pebbles on black background

Great for semi-hydro propagation.

Rinse the LECA thoroughly and position the corm near the top of the clay pebbles. Maintain a small reservoir beneath the corm so moisture can wick upward while the corm itself remains above standing water. New roots can gradually grow toward the moisture below.

Sphagnum Moss +
Sphagnum moss on black background

Excellent for steady humidity around the corm.

Soak the moss, then squeeze out excess water until it is damp but not dripping. Loosely arrange it around the lower portion of the corm. Avoid tightly wrapping the entire corm in wet moss, because airflow remains important while new roots and the growth point establish.

Fluval Stratum +
Dark porous propagation substrate on black background

Useful when you want consistent moisture in a compact propagation setup.

Place moist Stratum into a clean cup and set the corm growth-point-up. Keep the lower portion in contact with the substrate without burying it too deeply. Maintain consistent moisture while avoiding a stagnant, saturated cup.

Puddle Method +

Simple and easy to monitor.

Use a very shallow amount of water at the bottom of a clean container. The base of the corm should have access to moisture while most of the corm and its growth point remain above the water. Refresh the water if it becomes cloudy and never completely submerge the corm.

Airy Aroid Mix +
Airy aroid propagation mix with Alocasia corm

A good option if you want to avoid a later substrate change.

Use a light, airy mixture such as potting mix or coco coir combined with perlite, pumice and fine bark. Use a small container, keep the growth point visible and maintain even light moisture while new roots establish.

Environment

Best Sprouting Conditions

  • Warm temperatures
  • Elevated humidity
  • Bright indirect light
  • Lightly moist media
  • Clean conditions
  • Gentle airflow

Avoid Rot

Do not keep it saturated.

High humidity does not mean the corm should remain soaked. Excess water and stagnant conditions can increase the risk of rot. A firm corm with no visible growth may simply be dormant and need more time. Keep conditions warm and stable rather than repeatedly increasing moisture.

Care After Sprouting

Move up slowly once roots and leaves develop.

Once your Alocasia Infernalis Pink Variegated corm develops healthy roots and begins producing foliage, gradually move it into a chunky, fast-draining aroid substrate. Infernalis naturally has a compact growth habit, so there is no need to rush into an oversized pot. A container that closely matches the root system generally makes moisture control easier.

Potting mix or coco coir
Perlite or pumice
Fine orchid bark
Horticultural charcoal

Provide bright indirect light and stable warmth. Pink, cream and other pale variegated tissue contains less chlorophyll than dark sections of the leaf, so harsh direct sun can damage those lighter areas more quickly. Maintain moderate, consistent moisture and elevated humidity while still giving the root zone enough air to breathe.

Pink Infernalis Color Notice

Color can change dramatically as each leaf hardens.

Young Alocasia Infernalis foliage may emerge with stronger metallic purple tones before darkening as the leaf matures. On a pink-variegated plant, lighter tissue may initially appear pale cream, peachy, blush or soft pink and then shift in intensity as the leaf hardens.

The term Pink Variegated identifies the collector form and parent line. It does not guarantee a particular percentage of pink on every leaf. One leaf may be highly variegated while the next may be darker, more marbled or more lightly marked. That unpredictability is part of the appeal of growing a rare variegated Alocasia from corm.

Shipping & Live-Corm Notice

Every corm is living propagation material.

Your corm may arrive dormant, rooted or unrooted, beginning to sprout, showing a visible growth point, carrying dry outer layers or displaying minor natural discoloration. Corm shape and size also vary naturally.

Dry exterior material, small surface marks and minor natural differences are not automatically signs of poor health. Open the package promptly, inspect the corm and place it into appropriate warm propagation conditions so it can begin acclimating and establishing.

Grow From the Beginning

Dark. Pink. Completely unpredictable.

An Alocasia Infernalis Pink Variegated corm gives collectors the chance to grow an already exceptional dark-foliage species with the added possibility of dramatic pink contrast. From the first root and emerging growth point to mature purple-black foliage marked with blush, cream or rose, every stage is part of the experience—and every new leaf has the potential to be completely its own.

What arrives: One live Alocasia corm unless the individual listing clearly states otherwise. Mature plant photos show the plant’s potential appearance as it grows.
What exactly am I buying?
A corm is the starter stage of the plant, not a mature plant. You receive the live corm described in the listing. Because these are living plants, corm size, sprouting speed, growth pattern, and mature appearance can naturally vary.
Why buy from AlocasiaCorms.com?
