Alocasia Regal Shields Mint Variegated
Grow the celebrated shield-shaped foliage of Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’ with the dramatic mint, creamy white, silvery-green and deep green patterns shown in the approved mature-plant reference photos. This listing includes one live corm for propagation, not the mature plant.
One Live Corm
One corm of the named Regal Shields Mint Variegated collector selection.
Mint-Variegated Foliage
Reference leaves show fine speckling, broad pale sectors and contrasting dark green patches.
Collector Hybrid
Regal Shields has large, shield-shaped leaves and was developed as an Alocasia hybrid, not a naturally occurring wild species.
Why collectors love Regal Shields Mint Variegated
Few Alocasia silhouettes look as striking as a broad shield-shaped leaf with pale and green variegation. In the approved white-background reference image, prominent radiating veins divide textured leaf blades, with a nearly cream-colored leaf beside two green-and-mint marbled blades. The black hero image emphasizes the split between a light sector and a darker green sector, with irregular flecks across both areas.
The distinctive leaves emerge from a central base, developing a powerful upright presence as the plant matures. Mint variegation offers an additional collecting characteristic on the established Regal Shields form. A newly sprouted corm typically starts with juvenile foliage, which may differ in size, vein definition, shape and color expression from the pictured mature plant.
Photos are variety references. Individual plants and new leaves can develop different amounts or arrangements of pale, mint, cream and green tissue.
Botanical identity and hybrid parentage
The recognized cultivar is Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’, an interspecific hybrid of Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula developed by LariAnn Garner. The cultivar is documented in U.S. Plant Patent PP27,050, granted in 2016. The parentage identifies the established Regal Shields cultivar; the separate mint-variegated form sold here is identified by the supplied horticultural trade name, not presented as an independently registered cultivar.
These hybrid parents do not prove a natural collection locality or breeding history for the mint-variegated selection. “Regal Shield” (singular) is also common in retail names, but ‘Regal Shields’ is the published cultivar spelling. Reference: U.S. Plant Patent PP27,050 and the International Aroid Society cultivar record.
How mint variegation differs from standard Regal Shields
A typical unvariegated Regal Shields is admired for its substantial, durable foliage, prominent green veins and darker green or purplish leaf coloration. The approved mint-variegated plant adds large creamy pale regions and irregular mint-speckled areas. These color sectors vary between leaves and growth stages; they do not establish a new wild species. Compare the standard Regal Shields guide and its regular corm listing to understand the difference between the horticultural forms.
IMPORTANT — YOU ARE BUYING ONE LIVE CORM
The mature plant, leaves, nursery pot and media pictured in the approved reference images are not included. Each unit purchased provides one live corm of the named form. Corms may differ naturally in shape, size, rooting progress and growth stage. Exact sprouting dates, mature leaf shapes and individual future variegation patterns are not guaranteed.
What you will receive and first inspection
You will receive one live Alocasia Regal Shields Mint Variegated corm, intended for propagation. It may be dormant or beginning to show a growth point or roots. On arrival, inspect promptly and follow the store's current live-corm policies. A firm corm without widespread mushiness is preferable to one showing extensive decay; do not damage the bud through unnecessary peeling or aggressive handling.
A bare corm cannot independently demonstrate a precise future variegation pattern. The approved photos document the collector form's mature appearance for reference.
Six practical corm propagation methods
For any method, prioritize stable warmth, clean tools, appropriate moisture and oxygen around the corm. Where the active bud is identifiable, position it upward.
Perlite
Rinse the perlite and keep it lightly damp with drainage and airflow. Avoid burying the entire corm beneath a saturated layer.
LECA
Use clean expanded clay. When using a reservoir, position the corm away from prolonged standing water as roots develop.
Sphagnum moss
Use lightly damp, loose sphagnum that retains air pockets. Inspect the corm regularly for excess moisture.
Puddle method
Keep only a shallow moisture source and allow air exchange. Do not fully submerge the corm.
Fluval Stratum
Use an aerated, appropriately moistened setup with the bud accessible. Avoid over-wetting the entire substrate.
Airy aroid mix
After roots are established, transfer gently to a small pot with a well-draining but moisture-retentive aroid mix.

Growing environment and rot prevention
Bright, filtered light
Place in bright indirect light and avoid abrupt exposure to harsh sun. Pale variegated leaf tissue may be more sensitive to leaf burn. Provide a stable, warm location protected from cold drafts.
Warmth, humidity and airflow
Moderate to high humidity can support young tropical growth, but enclosed propagation setups need ventilation. Use clean equipment, avoid stagnant standing water and inspect for persistent soft tissue or unpleasant odor.
After the corm sprouts
Allow fresh roots to establish before frequent handling or transplanting. Use an appropriately sized container with drainage and an airy substrate. Water according to actual root development and moisture needs rather than following a fixed daily schedule. Feed conservatively during active growth. Young leaves may not yet display the broad mature shield shape or the same markings as established leaves.
Mint-color expectations
Variegation can vary considerably across leaves; it is not possible to guarantee the exact balance of pale mint, cream and green. The photo is not a promise of identical leaf patterning. Monitor overall health, avoid severe stress, and do not rely on excessive light to force a particular variegation outcome.
Shipping and live-corm notice
Living corms naturally change during shipment. Promptly unpack, inspect and follow the store's current processing and shipping policies. Do not assume the mature plant shown in the gallery will arrive with the corm. No sprouting deadline, final height or exact leaf count is guaranteed.
