Collector Corm

Alocasia Regal Shield Corm

This listing is for one live Alocasia Regal Shield corm for propagation—not the mature plant shown in reference photography. Regal Shield is prized for broad, dark shield-shaped foliage, strong venation and dramatic mature presence.

1 Corm

One live corm only—not the mature plant pictured.

Dark Foliage

Broad green-black leaves create a dramatic mature specimen.

Regal Shield

Large shield-shaped leaves give this collector plant its name.

Why Collectors Love It

Big, dark foliage with commanding contrast.

Alocasia Regal Shield is grown for scale and contrast. Mature foliage develops into broad shield-like leaves with deep green to nearly black surfaces and pronounced veins. Purple to burgundy tones can appear on the reverse of the leaves and along the petioles, creating a striking two-sided effect.

As it sizes up, Regal Shield becomes an architectural focal plant. Its appeal is not dependent on variegation—the dramatic shape, dark coloration and large mature leaves provide the visual impact.

Signature Characteristics

  • Large shield-shaped leaves
  • Deep green to near-black upper surfaces
  • Strong visible venation
  • Purple or burgundy-toned undersides
  • Dark contrasting petioles
  • Bold upright growth habit

What You Can Verify at the Corm Stage

Mature color and leaf size develop later.

At the corm stage, you are purchasing living propagation material labeled as Alocasia Regal Shield. A corm cannot display the final darkness, mature leaf dimensions, purple-toned underside or full shield shape of an established plant.

Juvenile growth can be smaller, lighter and less dramatic. Reference photos represent mature characteristics to expect as the plant establishes and produces successive leaves.

What You Will Receive

One carefully selected live Regal Shield corm.

Carefully packaged for shipment

Corms naturally vary in size, shape, exterior texture and growth stage. The item shipped is one corm; mature plant imagery is reference photography.

How to Start Your Corm

Warm. Humid. Moist—not waterlogged.

Keep the growth point upward when identifiable. Provide warmth, humidity and bright indirect light while maintaining moisture without creating stagnant conditions around the corm.

Perlite +

Perlite propagation

Rinse first and keep damp rather than flooded. Nestle only the lower portion of the corm into the perlite.

LECA +

LECA propagation

Position near the top of rinsed LECA with a small reservoir below so moisture can wick upward.

Sphagnum Moss +

Sphagnum Moss propagation

Use damp, well-squeezed moss loosely around the lower corm while preserving airflow.

Fluval Stratum +

Fluval Stratum propagation

Set the lower corm into moist Stratum with the growth point exposed and avoid saturation.

Puddle Method +

Puddle Method propagation

Use very shallow water so the corm base has moisture while most of the corm remains above water.

Airy Aroid Mix +

Airy Aroid Mix propagation

Use a small container with loose, oxygen-rich substrate kept lightly moist while roots establish.

Environment

Best Sprouting Conditions

  • Warm temperatures
  • Elevated humidity
  • Bright indirect light
  • Lightly moist media
  • Clean conditions
  • Gentle airflow

Avoid Rot

Do not keep it saturated.

Dense wet media and stagnant moisture increase rot risk. A firm dormant corm may simply need additional time, warmth and stable conditions.

Care After Sprouting

Give the roots time to build strength.

After healthy roots and active foliage develop, transition gradually into a chunky, well-draining aroid substrate. Regal Shield can become a substantial plant, but a young corm-grown specimen should be moved up in container size gradually rather than placed immediately into an oversized pot.

Potting mix or coco coir
Perlite or pumice
Fine orchid bark
Horticultural charcoal

Regal Shield Foliage Notice

Dark mature foliage is earned with growth.

Juvenile leaves may be smaller and greener than mature examples. Leaf darkness, size, vein contrast and underside coloration can become more pronounced as the plant matures under appropriate growing conditions.

Shipping & Live-Corm Notice

Every corm is living propagation material.

Your corm may arrive dormant, rooted or unrooted, beginning to sprout, showing a visible growth point, carrying dry exterior layers or displaying minor natural discoloration. Open promptly and move it into appropriate propagation conditions.

What arrives: One live Alocasia corm unless the individual listing clearly states otherwise. Mature plant photos show the plant’s potential appearance as it grows.
What exactly am I buying?
A corm is the starter stage of the plant, not a mature plant. You receive the live corm described in the listing. Because these are living plants, corm size, sprouting speed, growth pattern, and mature appearance can naturally vary.
Why buy from AlocasiaCorms.com?
The website is new, but the seller experience behind it is established. We have been selling to plant collectors for 18 months, with a 4.9 out of 5 prior marketplace rating, 700+ customer reviews, and 7,000+ prior marketplace sales.
How is my corm packed?
Corms are carefully prepared and packed for shipment with the goal of protecting the live plant material while it travels to you.
What happens after it arrives?
Growing guidance is included so you have a clear starting point for sprouting and caring for your corm. You are not left guessing what to do next.
What about the mature plant photo?
For corm listings, mature leaf photos are there to show the variety and its potential appearance. The item being shipped is the corm described in the listing, not the mature plant shown for reference.
Can I ask a question before ordering?
Absolutely. Email alocasiacorms@gmail.com. We would rather answer a question before you order than have you purchase without feeling confident.
